This was a tough one for me. I loved the first 380 out of 400 pages. I rather adored Fanny Price, and came to love several of the characters as their personalities and treatment of Fanny changed. But then, after an extremely sudden turn of events, I became seriously confused. Why had Austen chosen this plot change? Why was I being told that everything I had felt and been rooting for up to that point was wrong? Why did it end with such a disturbing relationship? I suppose Austen was trying to teach a very strict lesson, but I think she erred greatly by denying the heroic reformation and forgiveness of every great love story. That being said, I truly loved the first 380 pages. Perhaps, in a year or two, I will read it again and make up my own ending.
