Honestly, not my type of book. I'm more a young adult, paranormal, romance fan, although I do enjoy Jodi Picoult. The Help however just wasn't my cup of tea, so I won't take it to heart if you blow off my review. I can see how it became a bestseller and now has a movie deal. The imagery in this novel was powerful but I was bored through most of the book. Skeeter needed to just woman up and take ownership of her unconventional thoughts and actions. For the times, she was well more advanced than Hilly and the other girls. She needed to take some lessons from Minny, because she definitely was my favorite character. Could definitely have left out the Awful, terrible incident because OMG that really is disgusting. I felt for Aibleen more than the others, she just had this way with her. It's very hard to explain. So this wasn't a terrible read, but it wasn't that great either. Won't be checking out the movie.
I didn't realize Anne Rice wrote more than the vampire books. This and the follow up book (Of Love and Evil) have a bit of time travel in them so there is some interesting history and interesting people. I learned that the Jews in England in the 1200s were persecuted. Who knew?
